I am from scrapbooks in the living room,

A piano in the dining room

Shoes in the cupboard

I am from the wafting smells of dinner cooking

A big blue couch, tempting me to sit down

Toys in the playroom

The soft squish of the carpet

From a little Chinese maple tree

Always welcoming me home

I’m from Christmas AND Hanukkah

From Judaism, but not being very religious

I’m from Gramson and Charlotte

From “Follow your dreams” and “Never give up”

I am from Thanksgiving dinners, spaghetti carbonara

From UFOs, Martin Luther King Jr., and a haunted hotel

I am from Philly
